She ___ a teacher.

How the test works

  1. 1

    Answer every question

There are up to 20 questions in total, grouped into six levels from beginner to proficient.

  2. 2

    Be honest

Pick the answer you'd really give. If you're not sure, choose “I don't know” — no one is judging you.

  3. 3

    Don't overthink it

You're not timed, but your first instinct is usually the most accurate signal of your real level.

  4. 4

    Read carefully

Make sure you understand the sentence before picking an answer — a missed word changes the meaning.

  5. 5

    Check your result

The test gets harder as you go and stops once it has a confident read on your level, so you might not see every question.

What English levels are there?

Our result is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the internationally recognised scale most language schools and exams use.

English level test questions, answered

Is this a real IELTS test?

No. This is a free, self-assessment placement test that estimates your general English level (CEFR) and an approximate IELTS band from that. It's a quick way to know roughly where you stand — not an official or certified score. For an accurate band, you need the real IELTS exam.

How is my level calculated?

You answer grammar and vocabulary questions that get progressively harder, grouped into six CEFR levels (A1 to C2). You need to get most of a level's questions right to move up to the next one, and the test stops early if you miss several questions in a row — so it adapts to your level instead of always asking all 20 questions.

Why does the test sometimes stop before question 20?

The test is adaptive: once it's confident you've hit your ceiling — either by clearly struggling at a level or missing several questions in a row — it stops rather than asking questions it already knows you'll find too hard. That's normal and doesn't mean anything went wrong.

How does the CEFR level map to an IELTS band?

We use the official IELTS.org concordance between CEFR levels and IELTS bands (for example, B2 corresponds to roughly 5.5–6.5). Your exact position within that range depends on how well you did within your highest cleared level.

Do I need to sign up to see my result?

No. Your level, estimated band, and a short explanation show immediately after the test — no email or account required.
