IELTS Letter Writing Sample (Informal):
Here’s a sample 8+ band score answer for the IELTS Letter (IELTS GT Task 1):
A friend has agreed to look after your house and pet while you are on holiday. Write a letter to your friend.
In your letter:
- give contact details for when you are away
- give instructions on how to care for your pet
- describe other household duties
You should write at least 150 words.
You do NOT need to write any addresses.
Begin your letter as follows:
Dear ………………,
Remember, as discussed earlier, this is an informal letter, which means you are allowed to use a slightly casual way of writing because you are addressing to someone you personally know; a friend!
And here’s the sample answer. (I write EVERY sample answer myself. NOTHING is copied/pasted or rewritten from anywhere, or else it does not serve the purpose of me getting an 8.5 in Writing):
Dear Hassan,
I cannot express my happiness when I found out that you’ve agreed for taking care of my house and pet. I’d like to thank you on taking up this responsibility, so allow me to update you on the chores you need to perform.
For any reason, should you need to contact me, feel free to do so at my email address or mobile number. While out of country, I will be able to get back to you because I have turned on international data roaming from my mobile network service provider. I have already shared my contact details to you through Whatsapp.
I love Bubble, my pet cat. She is shy, but very punctual about her feeding time. You can find the cat food at the top of the refrigerator, in the kitchen. Fill the bowl right next to it, and feed her in morning and evening, every day.
You need not to cook as I have already prepared several dishes, all of which are in the refrigerator. You just need to microwave them for up to 1 minute, and you’re good to go. Once you are done eating, kindly do the laundry and take out the trash.
The house is all open to you. Treat it as if it were yours. Thank you once again for house-sitting. Hope to meet you soon.
Warm regards,
Yasir Saeed
If you pay close attention, you can see the simplicity in my writing style. I would NOT recommend you memorize this structure, but it perfectly aligns with the IELTS requirements. One paragraph each for every bullet point, preceded by an introduction, and followed by a closing statement.
